How many cameras does a typical home need?
Most single-family homes land between six and twelve. What decides it is the number of approach paths and entry points, not the square footage — a compact home on a corner lot with three street-facing sides can need more coverage than a larger house on an interior lot.
Do the cameras keep recording if my internet goes out?
Yes. Recording happens on a local network video recorder inside your home, so an internet outage only affects your ability to view remotely. Everything continues to record, and it's all there when service returns.
Do I need a monthly subscription?
Not for recording or viewing — those run on hardware you own outright. Subscriptions only come into it if you want a monitoring service to dispatch on alarms, which is a separate decision from the camera system itself.
Are wireless cameras a reasonable option?
For a rental or a single spot, sure. For a whole-property system, hardwired PoE is meaningfully better: no batteries to swap, no dropouts, no compression artifacts from a saturated WiFi channel, and no dependence on signal reaching the far corner of the lot.
Can I have cameras without them being an eyesore?
Yes — placement and fixture selection do most of the work. Cameras get tucked into soffits and eaves on the same lines as your existing architectural details, with cabling run internally. Visible deterrence and a clean elevation aren't in conflict.
